After he scored 25 goals in 40 games in his debut season, it will hardly come as a surprise to any United fan that Javier Hernandez is in line to receive an upgraded contract. Very few players have ever had quite as much impact as the diminutive Mexican had in his first season at Old Trafford and his work looks set to be rewarded. After Chris Smalling was awarded an extended and improved deal, it seemed inevitable that Hernandez would also receive the same treatment and reports suggest that such a deal is imminent. I couldn’t believe how well the young striker settled into the Premier League but it is a testament to the natural ability that oozes out of every footballing minute he plays. It is such a pleasure to see someone enjoy football so much when they are playing in the colours of your team. You can keep your mopy Tevez and your disgruntled Fabregas’ and just give me more Chicharito! I hope that we can keep him at the club for years to come and build a legacy with him, smoothing out the edges of a £6 million diamond in the process. Anybody watching the Gold Cup over the past few weeks realised that he is ever improving his game and scoring 7 in the competition shows that his hot streak in front of goal was not just a freak accident, it seems commonplace wherever he steps onto the turf.
