SAF press conference in Chicago

by Sam Peoples

After a resounding 7-0 victory against the Seattle Sounders on Wednesday evening, Manchester United made the trip to Chicago ahead of the game on 23 July against Chicago Fire, the third game of the pre-season. After arriving, SAF gave his first press conference in Chicago and answered a few questions on some burning issues. Below are his responses.

On Darren Fletcher’s prolonged absence from the squad…

Darren’s recovering from this virus he’s had for quite a few months. Sometimes viruses do take time. He’s been into Carrington for the last few days and he’s doing a weight programme at the moment. Hopefully by the time we get back he’ll be joining us.

On the weather in Chicago…

We’ve come froma nice cool atmosphere in Seattle to a furnace in Chicago. It’s going to be a test for the players, for both sides but it will be manageable, we hope.

On the future of Park Ji Sung at Manchester United…

He’s been offered a new contract, yes. I’m sure he’ll sign it. His career at United has been nothing but excellent. He’s a tremendous professional. I’m sure he’ll accept a new offer and tie himself to the club for the next two years.

On the immediate future of David De Gea

De Gea will start on Saturday. He’s had a few days’training and he’s done fine. He has terrific composure, he’s quick, his use ofthe ball is excellent. He has good ingredients for our club. Hopefully they’ll show as we get to the season.
