Sam Johnstone 9 *MOTM – Made several superb saves that kept United in the game, man of the match for me.

Tyler Blackett 5 – Taken off at half time and guilty of giving the ball away too easily. Not his best game.

Larnell Cole 7 – Played better when moved into midfield. Kept the ball moving and played a number of clever forward passes.

Tom Thorpe 6 – Not Tom’s best game, but he recovered from a shaky start. Caught out for Newcastle’s second goal.

Michele Fornasier 6 – Had a hard game with the Newcastle attack, improved as the game went on.

Ryan Tunnicliffe 8– Ryan had an excellent game. He was the engine in midfield that helped power United to victory.

Jesse Lingard 7 – An assist for Macheda’s first goal, a decent game for Jesse. Would’ve been nice to see him on the ball more.

Robbie Brady 7 – Some good early attacking play and then he moved to left back where he was solid.

Davide Petrucci 9 – A classy display from the young Italian. Linked up well with Macheda and added a goal to his two assists. Very close to call man of the match between Petrucci and Johnstone.

Joshua King 8 – A constant threat with his pace and direct running, King got the assist for Henriquez‘s goal and played well
throughout the game.

Federico Macheda 9 – Two goals in the first half for Macheda, and if he didn’t play wide in the second half he could have got his hat-trick. Two great goals and a constant threat to Newcastle.

Angelo Henriquez 7 – He may have only come on for a substitute appearance but he was extremely impressive. Looked sharp with the ball at his feet and a genuine goal threat as soon as he came on. Great positioning for his goal too.

Frederic Veseli 7 – Came on for Blackett at the start of the second half, a good display form Vaseli as he linked up well with King on the right hand side.

Sean McGinty – No rating – Came on for the last minute.
