Owen: I’m desperate to be fit to play Manchester United

by Sam Peoples

Michael Owen spent three years at Manchester United before moving onto Stoke City in the summer after two injury ridden seasons saw him burning a hole on the bench.

Now that he has missed the Liverpool away match due to injury, Owen has said he is “desperate” to play against United at Old Trafford when the teams meet after the international break.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, he said: “I was looking at it thinking Liverpool away and Manchester United away, it was going to be an interesting October.

“Obviously I missed the first one but I am desperate to be fit for the second one.

“The lads are playing out of their skin at the moment so it’s hard to get in the team, but my fitness is coming week by week and I am really excited about the challenge ahead.”

In all likeliness, even if he is fit to play, he probably won’t get into the starting line up ahead of Walters and Crouch.

Perhaps poor Stoke fans will get to realise what Geordies realised very quickly. Sick note Owen will take his wages and look after his horses. I wish Stoke fans every success this season you deserve a good run with a good manager and squad (except Owen). Just finish one place below us please but as far as you like above Sunderland.
