Four Manchester United lions called up for England duty against Sweden

by Sam Peoples

Tom Cleverley, Ashley Young, Wayne Rooney and Danny Welbeck have been called up by Roy Hodgson to play in the friendly against Sweden next week.

It is a recall for Ashley Young who was left out of the squad to face San Marino and Poland through injury but Michael Carrick has once again been left out of the squad, with Jonjo Shelvey coming in instead. Interesting decision from Roy Hodgson but as it is only a friendly, the fewer Manchester United players in the squad the better.

Here’s the squad in full from www.thefa.com:

Goalkeepers Fraser Forster (Celtic), Joe Hart (Manchester City), John Ruddy (Norwich City).

Defenders Leighton Baines (Everton), Ryan Bertrand (Chelsea), Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Steven Caulker (Tottenham Hotspur), Phil Jagielka (Everton), Glen Johnson (Liverpool), Ryan Shawcross (Stoke City), Kyle Walker(Tottenham Hotspur).

Midfielders Tom Cleverley (Manchester United), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Aaron Lennon (Tottenham Hotspur), Leon Osman (Everton), Jonjo Shelvey (Liverpool), Raheem Sterling (Liverpool), Theo Walcott (Arsenal), Jack Wilshere (Arsenal), Ashley Young (Manchester United).

Forwards Wayne Rooney (Manchester United), Daniel Sturridge (Chelsea), Daniel Welbeck (Manchester United).

Alongside the senior call ups, Manchester United have three U21 squad members including Nick Powell, Ben Amos and a first time call-up for in form keeper Sam Johnstone.
