Angelo Henriquez set to get first team action with move to Wigan on loan

by Sam Peoples

Summer signing Angelo Henriquez looks set to join Wigan Athletic on loan in January in order to gain valuable first team action in the Premier League.

Roberto Martinez worked wonders with Tom Cleverley, helping to make him the player he is today, and he has vowed to do the same with Henriquez. According to reports, he wants the Chilean striker as emergency cover as Arouna Kone will be leaving in January to play in the African Cup of Nations.

He said: “Angelo is as good a goalscorer as you will find. He scored goals at Universidad de Chile and he is going to score goals here.

“I am sure he will be an important player for United. We are glad we can work with him and he can use Wigan as Tom Cleverley did and adapt to what is needed in this league.”

Angelo Henriquez immediately impressed in his first few performances for the Manchester United U21s, even scoring on his debut. His talents were clear straight from the off with a predatory instinct inside the box looking extremely natural and clinical.

A loan move to Wigan could be a great move for Henriquez. Martinez makes Wigan play some very impressive football and Cleverley really benefited from his loan move back in 2010.

With van Persie, Rooney, Welbeck and Hernandez already in stiff competition for attacking places, game time would be virtually non existent with the first squad after the exit from the Capital One Cup.

At just 18, Henriquez is a raw and unpolished diamond. The only way to smooth the edges is to expose him to first team action as much as possible and if he can get a positive five months under his belt with Martinez, he could come back to United ready to try and fight for a spot in the senior squad.

its welcome development. If the deal goes through, it will really help his chances with the first team. i wish to see him develop the way cleverly did at wigan. But please whats this thing about sir Alex and strikers? Am hearing rumors that Lewandowski is on his way to man u. I really hope its not true bcos i dont see where he fits in. Vanpersie and rooney are already benching chicharito who is in top form. We still have welbeck who needs a run of games to get back his goal scoring form. There isnt space in our starting xi for lewandowski pls.

It’s a welcome development for Angelo Henriguez. The likes Danny Welbeck, Tom Cleverly, all got their first team experience through Leon. I believe he will definitely do exploits at Wigan Athletics. I wish him well!
