Ferguson confirms Nani is not leaving Manchester United

by Sam Peoples

Sir Alex has ended speculation over Nani’s contract situation and future at Manchester United by explaining that the Portuguese winger who has been injured for a large chunk of the season still has a future at Old Trafford.

The Manchester United boss, who turns 71 on New Years Eve, said: “Nani’s contract isn’t up until the end of next season – and we need him. He offers something different from the other players we have”.

The winger has been put under much speculation and rumours circulated of potential transfers to AC Milan, Roma, Arsenal and Zenit St. Petersberg that were ready to materialise, but it seems now that Ferguson wants to hang on to Nani.

“We have sent Nani over to Dubai for a break in hope it will help him with his recovery. I don’t think we will have him back until the middle of January. He’s never had a hamstring injury before and this is a bad one”, Sir Alex continued.

Nani has been ever present for Manchester United since the £80million departure of Cristiano Ronaldo back in 2009 and has racked up over 100 appearances for the Red Devils. After a reported move to Zenit broke down in the summer, he has not played a big part in Sir Alex’s plans this season after a run of poor performances. But Sir Alex is adamant Nani stays with his team and proves his worth:

“Nani has got a future here. Why would I want to let him go?”, said Ferguson.

Even after blaming Nani for the defeat against Chelsea in the League Cup – something that is not regular for the Scotsman – he still firmly believes Nani has a good future for him and refuses to let him go.

Valencia can play crap and still get chances and more opportunities but Nani for a single game’s poor delivery he was held accountable for us losing the game because Sir Alex was disappointed in him missing the penalty how many has Wayne missed and still get more to take…To my understanding there is much more inside conflicts to Nani’s issue than what we all know…

Luis Nani will be forever demoralised, aimless & will never be the same if Sir Alex Ferguson let him go. He’ll definitely come in handy for us come what may.
