Two departures confirmed for United in January window and third rumoured

by Sam Peoples

Joshua King and Angelo Henriquez have already departed Old Trafford already in the transfer window with a loan move to Nick Powell rumoured to be confirmed later today.

The 20-year-old striker had impressive since moving to Blackburn Rovers on loan, scoring two goals in eight appearances, but he has now signed for Blackburn for an undisclosed fee on a three year deal.

Speaking on the move, King said: “I’m happy to be here & I’m really looking forward to the next 2 & a half years that I’ve signed for.”

Blackburn have bagged themselves a really hot prospect in King who has already scored at senior level for Norway. He has ferocious pace and has really developed well in the past 12 months into a more rounded player.

Summer signing Angelo Henriquez has joined Wigan Athletic on loan until the end of the season in order to gain some first team experience in the Premier League, and the  18-year-old is looking forward to the chance of first team football.

He said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for me and I am really excited after the manager has given this chance for me to prove myself.

“Now I need to work to try and earn my place in the team.”

Roberto Martinez took Tom Cleverley under his belt in 2010 and a successful loan spell at the Latics helped mould Cleverley into the player he is today. Hopefully Martinez can have the same impact with Henriquez and given the football that Wigan play, he should thrive off the quick football they play.

The third and most surprising, but yet to be confirmed move, is of Nick Powell joining Peterborough on loan in the Championship. Managed by Sir Alex Ferguson’s son Darren, the Posh are sitting dangerously on 25 points just outside the relegation zone so Powell would be walking into a fight to survive at Peterborough.

Rumours suggest that Powell was at Peterborough’s match at the weekend ahead of the move.

I’m surprised that Ferguson would want to let Powell drop back down to the Championship given the fact he has already made his Premier League and UEFA Champions League debuts. There is no doubt how much of a real talent he is but maybe it is first team football he needs to progress rather than coaching at Carrington.

More news to follow on the Powell move.

Er…I may be wrong but Josh King appears to be better than grossly-overrated Welbeck…I’ve seen him on TV few times and just wonder why we let him go…Again, those, like me, who have seen Pogba play for Juve must wonder why Utd sold him. Pogba is better than any Utd midfielder at this moment. Is there a problem with young brilliant players at Utd and SAF? Remember Pique, Rossi?

‘Roberto Martinez took Tom Cleverley under his belt’…Really?…Sounds like quite a worrying managerial technique to me…don’t you mean “under his wing”.

while the “under his belt” invokes some unsettling images “under his wing” implies another level of weirdness.

getting experience is vital. Beckham was loaned out in his early United career, and it did him wonders. If they can clock in hours, it’ll be to the benefit of United in the end.
