Former Manchester United player Zoran Tosic has claimed in a recent interview that Sir Alex Ferguson often asks about several Russian based players.
Tosic, who only appeared five times for United, has extensive knowledge of the Russian League having played for CSKA Moscow since 2010, where he has been a revelation.
The 25-year-old wideman stated that he regularly talks with Sir Alex Ferguson and that the Scotsman asks for information about players including Tosic’s highly rated team mate and Euro 2012 star Alan Dzagoev.
Tosic said of former manager Sir Alex Ferguson: “I still have a very good relationship with Alex Ferguson and we sometimes talk on the phone. I’m always glad to hear from him. He is a great professional and a person. He usually calls to ask about Russian players.”
Tosic, who has 46 caps for Serbia has in the past admitted to Scottish newspaper the Daily Record that he regrets leaving United and says his decision was motivated by his hunger for regular first team football. Tosic appeared on five occasions for United before being set out on loan to FC Koln and departing to the Russian capital in the summer of 2010.
Since leaving United, the Serbian has been impressive scoring 19 times in 92 appearances despite featuring on the wings.
Following Tosic’s interview, speculation has been rife in Russia that attacking midfielder Alan Dzagoev has caught the eye of United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
Dzagoev looks destined to leave CSKA Moscow, having refused the clubs offer of a new contract and having a fractious and troubled relationship with CSKA coach Leonid Slutsky.
The talented attacking midfielder has a good scoring record for both CSKA and the Russian National team, having netted 40 goals in 163 appearances for the Russian club and has eight goals in 27 games for the national team.
Dzagoev, who had a very impressive Euro 2012 campaign scoring three times for Russia, has been linked with Arsenal, Spurs, Chelsea and United, along with European powerhouses Real Madrid and A.C Milan.
The 22-year-old Russian, whose contract expires in 2015, has a similar style to that of Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard with fantastic technical abilities, an eye for goal as well as a great work ethic.
The highly rated midfielder appears to be just what United require in midfield, an area which has looked tired and in need of a fresh addition and there seems to be genuine interest from United.
Whether the deal will happen in January is unknown, however, with Sir Alex Ferguson potentially searching for a central midfielder in the summer as Paul Scholes could retire. With question marks raised over Darren Fletcher following his battle with illness, it would be a player of Dzagoev’s ilk arrive in Manchester in the near future.
