Ghanaian winger trains at Carrington ahead of proposed move to United

by Sam Peoples

Leicester City’s Jeffrey Schlupp may well be on his way to Manchester United very soon after coming to Carrington to train with the team reports The Independent tonight.

“A powerfully-built striker blessed with a remarkable turn of pace, Jeff joined the academy as an 11-year-old and excelled at every level of the Club’s youth setup. He played a starring role in the City Under-18 side that became the first in 20 years to reach the quarter-finals of the FA Youth Cup in 2011, before joining the League 1 Bees in March of that year.” Leicester City – Official website

The 20-year-old German born senior Ghana international, a product of the Leicester academy, has been given permission by his parent club Leicester to come to Carrington to train.

Relatively unknown and rather inexperienced, Schlupp has made less than 30 appearances for Leicester with only nine being this season and hasn’t featured for them in the Championship since November.

If Schlupp was to make the move, it would continue a long working relationship between United and Leicester. Currently, Leicester have three ex-United players in their squad in Danny Drinkwater, Richie De Laet and Matty James as well as Michael Keane on an extended loan spell, with Jesse Lingard returning from the Foxes in January.

Given United’s lack of natural width this year with an out of form Valencia and injuries to Nani and Young, bringing in another winger would make sense. Although, with Zaha rumours picking up pace and David Gill confirming interest in him, a move for Schlupp wouldn’t necessarily be the only incoming winger this January.
