Manchester United have confirmed that a deal has been agreed with Crystal Palace for exciting winger Wilfried Zaha. The deal for Zaha will involve the England international remaining at Palace for the rest of the season, where he has been comfortably their best player.
A United statement read: “Manchester United, Crystal Palace and Wilfried Zaha have reached an agreement for the player to join Manchester United in July 2013. There will be no further comment by any party until Wilfried joins United in July 2013.”
Sir Alex Ferguson seemed delighted he had got Zaha in his press conference earlier yesterday with Zaha regarded as one of the best English talents outside of the Premier League.
Ferguson continued: “We are signing a player of potential. We always feel we develop players well. We have proved that many times. We hope the boy enjoys coming here, when he comes in the summer.”
The player seemed equally thrilled at the prospect of linking up with United where he will hope to establish himself as a regular for the side, which boasts an impressive core of English talent who will hopefully be the backbone of the club in years to come.
Speaking about the move, Zaha said: “I am delighted to be joining Manchester United and ending the recent speculation.”
The talented wide man has been in good form this season for Palace scoring five goals in 27 appearances adding a further four assists, despite being doubled up on by many Championship defences where he is viewed as a constant threat by the opposition.
Zaha has put pen to paper on a five-and-a-half-year deal which will see him earn a reported £35,000 per week and plenty will be expected of the 20-year-old after a substantial outlay from the club. He will likely be thrown into the proverbial deep end with many expecting Luis Nani to leave the club this summer.
The player is not exactly short of confidence, demonstrated by a string of fine performances since being in the spotlight this month where he has certainly showed plenty of promise.
Zaha will be able to bed himself in to the squad this pre-season and could make his debut at Wembley, should United finish the season as F.A Cup or Premier League champions.
