Ferguson: De Gea wobbles, gets up again and now he’s walking

by Sam Peoples

Sir Alex Ferguson has staunchly defended David de Gea in the pre-match press conference ahead of Real Madrid tomorrow.

With de Gea sitting by his side, Ferguson slammed the criticism that the 22-year-old goalkeeper has received so far in his Manchester United career.

Speaking to the press, Ferguson said: “David has shown his character because he has taken a lot of criticism and sometimes unfair criticism.

“What we’re good at is developing people. Bit by bit it’s a like a young kid moving forward – he wobbles, gets up, wobbles, gets up again and now he’s walking.”

That’s a great line from Ferguson – He wobbles, gets up, wobbles, gets up again and now he’s walking – and it is exactly what has happened to de Gea.

He has overcome fierce criticism and answered his doubters with phenomenal performances. Right now, he is in the best form he has shown since he made the move from Spain and the Madrid born goalkeeper will be relishing the prospect of beating his old foes Madrid in their own back yard.

De Gea spent his whole career at arch-rivals Atletico Madrid before moving to Manchester so expect him to be fired up for tomorrow. Given the attacking talent that Madrid have in their team, he is definitely going to have to be at his best if United have any chance of keeping Madrid from scoring.

It wasn’t Hart’s fault man. It was the sleeves! Made from foreign imported cotton as well
