PICTURE: Vidic and Ronaldo’s best Balotelli impression in the Santiago Bernabeu

by Sam Peoples

“We try to manage Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand, they need that extra day sometimes and three days after playing on gluey pitch at Old Trafford, it might have been a risk for us to play Vidic.” Sir Alex Ferguson

vidic-ronaldo2Nemanja Vidic wasn’t part of the playing squad for Real Madrid last night after Ferguson said it would have been a risk for him to play but it didn’t stop him catching up with Cristiano Ronaldo.

Before kick-off, they were pulling off their best Balotelli impressions and Nemanja doesn’t look particularly impressed by Ronaldo’s effort!

It was the right decision to leave Vidic out of the playing squad last night as Ferdinand and Evans more than vindicated their selection with stellar performances.

Ronaldo might have scored one but he struggled to influence the game fully last night, due in no small part to the fantastic defending of the team as a whole. When Real Madrid visit Old Trafford in March, Vidic may well be chosen if he is fit enough to play.

His brute strength always brings a new dimension to United’s game with his aerial dominance a key aspect of his game. Ronaldo might find it a little harder to score any towering headers if Vidic returns to the team at Old Trafford.

When I saw Welbeck in the starting 11, I thought Sir Alex had goofed. However, he played far much better than Rooney and of course Valencia, let alone Anderson. Bravo Welbeck for proving the Doubting Thomases wrong! Above all, players of Nani and Chicharito calibre were very much needed in the second half to turn chances into goals, not misses as Giggs did in the dying embers of the match. Any way, consider the wingers who might cause havoc at the Theatre of Dreams come March 5th in as much as their inclusion will help the People’s team to fire from all angles and cylinders!
