When David de Gea arrived at Manchester United last summer as a skinny boy, people rightly questioned whether he would be able to adapt to the physicality of the Premier League but you certainly can’t say that about him now.
The result of hard work and a strict nutritional programme set out by the staff at Carrington, De Gea now looks like a different man. After putting 5kg of lean muscle on, he now stands tall with broad shoulders and why shouldn’t he? With 13 consecutive appearances in goal for United, he has firmly cemented his place as first choice goalkeeper.
A man-of-the-match performance against Real Madrid has been his personal highlight of the season and with each passing game, his confidence seems to rise. Improved communication between him and his defenders as well as a more commanding attitude within his own six yard box are all part of De Gea’s ever increasing stock as one of the worlds finest young goalkeepers.
Given how far he has come in such a short time already at Manchester United, it is fair to say that De Gea will be one of, if not the, worlds best goalkeeper in the future. Hopefully, he will still be at United when that happens.
