The agent of Erik Lamela has rubbished speculation that his client is on his way to Manchester United amid reports of a big money bid for the Argentine forward.
While Roma would be more than reluctant to lose a player they would consider as one of their most valuable assets, speculation has arisen that a £30 million bid has been tabled for the 20-year-old.
The Argentine has been in prolific form for Roma this season, scoring 11 times in 19 Serie ‘A’ appearnces, despite predominantly featuring from a wide position which has seen his stock rise.
Lamela’s agent Pablo Sabbag told gazzettagiallorossa.it: “No, there is no truth.
“At the moment there is no official offer from Manchester United for Lamela.
“I have a relationship with Manchester United, but I have never discussed this topic with them or with Roma.
“Will Erik stay at Roma? It is still too early to talk about the market.”
Lamela was born in Buenos Aires and joined Roma in a €12 million deal in the summer of 2011, and has notched 17 goals in 51 appearances as well as adding seven assists.
This has been by far Lamela’s best season. He has score against Bologna, Atalanta, Genoa and arch-rivals Lazio, as well as braces against A.C Milan and Udinese, but the forwards agent has dismissed talk of an impending transfer.
Many may simply dismiss links between United and Lamela as media talk. However, with Nani yet to sign a new contract with the club, a winger may be high on Sir Alex Ferguson’s agenda this summer.
The fee for the skilful Argentina international may be a little high but United were reportedly close to shelling out similar fees for Eden Hazard and Lucas Moura, so anything is possible this time around.
With an impressive tally of goals and assists this season, a move to one of Europe’s elite could be on the cards in the near future, so it will be interesting to see how this story develops over the coming weeks and months
