Speaking at the pre match press conference this afternoon ahead of tomorrows massive UEFA Champions League fixture against Real Madrid, Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed the latest team news.
Sir Alex on latest team news…
“Phil’s not fit and won’t be fit for tomorrow. I think his performance over there was absolutely excellent. It’s a miss but we can’t see it as something we can’t manage. We’ve got options and hopefully we’ll get that right.
“Ryan will be involved at some point tomorrow, either as a starter or on the bench. I haven’t made my mind up yet. He’ll be important to us.
“It’s good to have that kind of problem as the three centre-backs are playing really well now. I’ll make that decision tomorrow – hopefully it’s the right one – but I couldn’t be happier with the three of them.”
So that is Phil Jones, who did not train with the first team today, ruled out of the Real Madrid game. I’d take that news with a pinch of salt. Remember when Rooney was categorically ruled out of the second leg against Bayern Munich in 2010? He started.
Sir Alex on Real Madrid game…
“It’s a massive build-up. You can see from the number of photographers at the training ground that it’s an indication of how important a game it is for both clubs. It’s an occasion you always want to have and that’s the beauty of the Champions League, you have the opportunity each year to play against one of the big teams from Europe. Tomorrow is one of the biggest.”
