Jose Mourinho: I subscribe and pay for MUTV

by Sam Peoples

Jose Mourinho has admitted that he is an MUTV subscriber in a remarkably relaxed interview with Paddy Crerand on MUTV.

Crerand even joked that Mourinho might one day get MUTV for free as an employee.

In what seemed more like a conversation in a pub rather than an interview, Mourinho and Crerand laughed and joked about the game tomorrow, Ronaldo and MUTV. Catch the interview in full when it is repeated on MUTV at 10pm (Sky channel 418, currently free to air).

Tonight, Mourinho had his pre-match press conference with the media ahead of tomorrow nights showdown between Real Madrid and Manchester United at Old Trafford. Here are the main points he covered:

Mourinho on the game tomorrow…

“Tomorrow’s game means the same but I live the situation with a different approach and different emotions. That match was my first season playing Champions League football. Now I have played more than 100 matches and I can control my emotions better. If i lose tomorrow I won’t cry and if I win I won’t run 100m again.”

Mourinho on facing Sir Alex again…

“I have won, lost and drawn against Sir Alex. I have had everything against United. I’ve come here a lot of times with Chelsea, Porto, Inter… I’ve won some, I’ve drawn some and I’ve lost some. I don’t care about records. What I care about is that tomorrow is the kind of match in which anything can happen.”

Mourinho on whether he will manage as long as Sir Alex…

“I imagine being a manager at 71 myself because I think it’s the type of the job where the older you are the better you are. I would love that God gives me health so I can do it. Sir Alex is unique. I don’t have any words that add to what everyone thinks about him and the respect he deserves from everyone.”

Mourinho on current Real Madrid form…

“I don’t really think the Barcelona results have an impact on tomorrow. It is a pity the match is not now and we have to wait until tomorrow. We are ready to play.”

Mourinho on Ronaldo…

“Ronaldo is fine. It’s nice that Sir Alex speaks honestly about Ronaldo and the reception he’ll get from the crowd tomorrow will be well deserved. I ‘m aware of how well he did when he played in the Premier League and what an impact he had at United.”

Mourinho on how United will play…

“I think United will be very defensive when we have the ball and it will be the same when we have the ball. They are a strong attacking side and we’ll have to defend stoutly and concentrate when they have the ball. We’re effectively behind in the tie so we will attack.”
