Cantona endorses striker Yilmaz for move to Manchester United

Manchester United legend Eric Cantona has lavished praise on the prolific Burak Yilmaz after yet more Champions League heroics from the Galatasaray forward.

The 27-year-old’s goal against Schalke in midweek proved crucial in the Turkish side progressing to the quarter-final stage and was a record equalling sixth consecutive Champions League goal.

Yilmaz is certainly a talent, attracting attention all over Europe with his goal-scoring heroics, and his quality has certainly been noticed by Eric Cantona.

Speaking to Canal+, Cantona said: “Burak Yilmaz is a first class footballer, actually I see a lot of myself in him.

“If he can score this many goals for Galatasaray in the Champions League, I think he could score even more if he was at Manchester United.

“Manchester United haven’t had a player like Burak since Cristiano Ronaldo.”

Former United favourite Ronaldo is currently tied with Yilmaz on eight goals in this season’s competition but the 27-year-old forward has spent fewer minutes on the pitch than Cristiano.

The Turkish hitman netted against Manchester United in November and has also been prolific in the league, netting 14 in 21 appearances.

Yilmaz is certainly rated highly by Galatasaray president Unal Aysal, who recently spoke out about the availability of the player.

Speaking to Turkish newspaper Sabah, Aysal said: “We have not received any offers for Burak Yilmaz, but, of course, speculation will mount as the end of the season nears closer.

“Burak is a very valuable star for us. If, however, we are talking about Falcao being worth €55 million, then my player is €40m.”

There has been no word from United over a potential transfer with the club hardly struggling for attacking players. However, when Eric Cantona speaks, people listen, and the ringing endorsement is evidence of how the Turk has progressed.
