On-loan Manchester United winger Wilfried Zaha has been given a one match ban and a £3,000 fine by the FA for improper conduct relating to his one fingered gesture towards Leeds fans.
The Ivory Coast born 20-year-old had been abused by sections of the home ground due to the fiercely rivalry between Leeds and Manchester United, and responded by showing the travelling Leeds fans his middle finger.
He was quick to apologise via Twitter soon after the incident but it didn’t stop the FA from charging him.
“On that note I also wanted to apologise for the gesture I did towards the Leeds fans in yesterday’s game. Very unprofessional from me.” Wilfried Zaha
Zaha will miss Palace’s crucial clash with mid-table Birmingham as the Eagles bid for automatic promotion to the Premier League.
Crystal Palace boss Ian Holloway has also received punishment for his conduct in the 2-2 draw for confronting the referee and for comments he made post-match.
The United bound winger has been garnering rave reviews all season after a string of impressive performances earned him a £15 million transfer to Old Trafford.
Negative headlines are usually something to be avoided but there are few better ways to endear yourself to United’s fans than to give Leeds supporters the middle finger.
Excitement over the England internationals transfer is mounting as many are eager to see how he fairs at the highest level after a poor showing from United’s current crop of wingers this season.
