Mario Gotze admits a move to Manchester United is attractive

Borussia Dortmund’s Mario Gotze has claimed that Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester United are all “attractive options” and hinted at a possible switch to one of Europe’s biggest clubs in the future.

Speculation was rife this summer that the highly rated Gotze would depart Germany for a club in England or Spain with plenty of teams hungry to acquire the services of the 20-year-old rated by many as the brightest prospect in Europe.

Rumours were dampened when the German international signed a new contract with Dortmund, extending his current deal until the summer of 2016, but he has kept the door open for a future move away from his boyhood club.

Speaking to German TV’s Sport1, he said: “Clubs such as Real Madrid, Barcelona or Manchester United are attractive, other top leagues would dominate you and you could develop.

“But I’m not thinking of that at the moment. I’m happy in Dortmund and very happy how things are going. Therefore, it is still a bit away.

Gotze’s current side are among the favourites to win this season’s Champions League after topping the so-called group of death involving Ajax, Manchester City and United’s conquerors Real Madrid. And despite being 20 points behind Bayern Munich, the playmaker believes his side are well on their way to qualifying for next year’s competition.

“In the league we’re right on target to qualify again for the Champions League,” he added.

“The fact that the distance to top spot now is so huge, of course is annoying. But I must admit that Bayern have enjoyed a very, very good season.”

Gotze is just one of a number of Borussia Dortmund players to be linked with United with Mats Hummels, Ilkay Gundogan and Robert Lewandowski all reportedly interesting the club.
