PICTURE: Darren Fletcher returns for Manchester United

by Sam Peoples

Darren Fletcher has returned to light training today at Carrington with Manchester United as he begins his recovery from surgery.

The 29-year-old midfielder has been sidelined since January after going under the knife to try and fight the ulcerative colitis that has thwarted his career for nearly two years.

Fletcher is certainly a fighter. He made what looked like a full recovery back in November, even captaining the side, only to be told he had to miss the rest of this season due to the condition – but it hasn’t stopped him coming back and trying once again.

He’s a much loved player at United and his phenomenal 2008 season will always be fondly remembered. If he is to fully overcome his health troubles and return once again, he won’t be the marauding terrier that he once was but he will still be a really strong character and squad member to have back.
