Marca claim Falcao on his way to Manchester United

by Tom Parker

marcaDespite widespread speculation that Atletico Madrid forward Falcao is destined for a move to either Manchester City or Chelsea in the close season, Spanish newspaper Marca are tonight reporting that the Colombian hitman could be on his way to Manchester United.

The 27-year-old striker has been in fantastic form this season with only Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo outscoring him domestically.

Falcao is represented by super agent Jorge Mendes who was involved in deals bringing Anderson, Nani and Cristiano Ronaldo to United, and reported target Ezequiel Garay also linked up with Mendes’ agency apparently in a bid to broker a move to Old Trafford.

The former River Plate man would not come cheap with a fee of €55 million being quoted.

The full story will be released tomorrow but the back page has been taken from the verified Twitter account bearing the words: “Falcao on his way to United.”

But the historical pro-Madrid leanings of Marca with the derby against Atletico only two weeks away suggest that this may well be a simple fabrication.

If a move were to materialise, it would certainly be a surprising one with United hardly lacking in the goalscoring department this campaign and with Falcao’s preference of playing in a 4-3-3 system, a deal does not appear to suit either party particularly well.

According to Marca, a part-exchange deal including Hernandez going the other way has been rejected in favour of a straight cash deal.

More will be revealed in the morning edition of the paper. It would certainly be a surprise to see Falcao join United but few predicted the purchase of Robin Van Persie last summer.

UPDATE: Marca have now published the full story here which reports that according to sources close to both parties, a down payment has already been made between both clubs.

And the newspaper edition of the story suggests that Atletico were getting frustrated in negotiations with Chelsea due to the uncertainties with who was going to be manager next season.

They raise a good point in that the transfer of De Gea was calculated in a similar fashion when Ferguson admitted that United had already wrapped up the deal a long time before it was finally announced.

I heard £42 million is what it will cost Man Utd to sign Falcao. Atletico Madrid are also interested in signing Hernandez and Nani from us, and haven’t bulked at the respected £20 million and £15 million fee quoted. If that deal goes ahead then the total deal for Falcao will only cost £7 million. Jorge Mendes is behind the whole transaction as he represents Falcao and Nani in this deal. Hernandez has grown unhappy at being left on the bench and falling behind Welbeck. Ferguson is also frustrated by the lack of development in Hernandez and his overall football play. The feeling is that he is limited as a pure fox in the box striker in this era of football.

The Nani deal is dependent on Arda Turan, however, and not Falcao. Manchester United and Atletico Madrid are negotiating the deals individually and so Falcao is £42 million. They want Hernandez to replace him and Man Utd want £20 million. Its possible that these deals will happen early in the summer. Nani wants to move to Spain and Atletico Madrid is the best option for him, but it is dependent on Turan, who has said he wants to leave. Atletico Madrid want £24 million for him and will only sign Nani as a replacement. Nani has interest from Inter Milan, who funnily enough, are exploring signing Turan first.

Rooney and PSG have been in discussions for a few months now and that deal is pretty much complete. PSG will offer £30 million to Man Utd and Ferguson has decided that it will be accepted. Its is football worst kept secret apparently and both Ferguson and Rooney want to focus on winning the title, but they are both accepting what is to occur this summer and that is a parting of the ways.

Ferguson has been watching Falcao since his River Plate days and Jorge Mendes has been pushing him to sign the lad. Ferguson and Mendes has a good relationship due to Cristiano Ronaldo. Ferguson has decided he needs to go strong in order to win the Champions League and stay ahead of Man City in the Premiership. Falcao is seen as a special player that can help achieve these goals. Sacrificing Rooney, Hernandez and Nani is worth the deal in Ferguson opinion. Anderson is available for transfer and his options are FC Porto or Brazil. Man Utd want a permanent deal and will accept £8 million for him.

Ferguson intends to strengthen the squad with real quality and wants to sign a central midfielder. Its looking like a £12 million deal is close for Kevin Strootman. As much as we are being linked with wide players, its my understanding that there will be none arriving. Ferguson wants to push the diamond formation properly and give Kagawa freedom to play his football. Valencia and Young will remain and be expected to improve their form. Wilfried Zaha is arriving to bring some freshness to the wide area, and Welbeck will continue to be used in the same fashion he has this season.

I have heard that Ferguson still wants 4 strikers and that he intends to offer £5 million for FC Copenhagen young forward named Andreas Cornelius. The boy is a real talent and has the height that Ferguson believes will complement with RVP, Falcao and Welbeck. In summary for this transfer summer business;

In; Falcao (£42 million), Strootman (£12 million), Zaha (£15 million) and Cornelius (£5 million) = £74 million

Out; Rooney (£30 million), Hernandez (£20 million), Nani (£15 million) and Anderson (£8 million) = £73 million

…………………De Gea………………

Rafeal….Ferdinand…Jones…Evra

………………..Carrick………………

………Cleverley……Strootman…..

………………..Kagawa……………..

…………..RVP…….Falcao………

Squad; Lindergaard, Vidic, Smalling, Evans, Fabio, Buttner, Powell, Giggs, Valencia, Young, Zaha, Januzaj, Welbeck and Cornelius

P.S. I made all this up clearly but I would like to work for Marca and I thought this was the best audition for the job.

Silly boys u all are like we dnt need a another striker……….. Yes we do…… Rooney as much ad I love the boy isn’t cutting it as a striker he had to play in the hole…… Danny is just getting started chico is our super sub that just leave robin vp he is a amazing striker but we need a bit more pace up front imagine falco n rvp banging them in from up front. If it is true we will be destroying Europe…… Defender is the most important thing right nw cause look at the goals we conceded this season n if u saw the city game well even wiv rvp we didn’t do much

I prefer my strikers to score goals so Falcao in and Welbeck out would be ideal!

The problem of united is not striking line but the Midfield. So getting players like Sami Nasri is very vital.

@ the kaizer “What are we going to do with another striker?” Welbeck can’t score and Rooney is already learning the French for “Where are all the grannies?” Does that answer your question?

falcao is ageing out with only about 4~5 years remaining before he retires.
let nani and valencia go and bring in gortz and strootman.we need young players who can establish themselves at united just like rooney has.

I think this move makes a lot of sense..chica to A. Madrid for around about 18-20 million and in falcao for 50million..so in total we spend 30million for a top top class striker and more importantly keeping chelsea and city (madrid out of question) away from him..everybody knows what a goal scorer he is and IF this happens chelsea and city would be again stranded in the transfer window to look for another striker (eg cavani and who else??)

but i agree we need to get rid off young, anderson, valencia and to some extent nani and get di maria, gotze, and a defensive midfielder in strootman!

Although it would be nice to get falcao we don’t need another striker we have an embarrassment of strikers at the moment send Welbeck on loan for a year give chich more playing time let him up his value then cash in next year when Welbeck gets back for around £25-30 mil or as a transfer for someone else like a gotze or moutinho and get rid of young nani and Valencia and bring In all new wingers like di Maria and bale or our legend CR7. I feel one Cm and a new class of wingers who are dependable game in ame out are all were missing from repeating our treble
