Ferguson responds to Falcao rumours

by Sam Peoples

Sir Alex Ferguson has quashed any rumours linking Falcao to Manchester United in the summer.

The 27-year-old Columbian striker, currently playing for Athletico Madrid in Spain, was heavily linked with United this week after Spanish newspaper Marca claimed United were set to sign Falcao.

But Sir Alex was quick to deny that any deal was in place or going to be in place.

“Do you honestly believe that?” he said in his pre match press conference.

“Really? It does amaze me that you come up with that one.”

The United manager, 71, has been uncharacteristically truthful in recent times with transfer stories, admitting interest in van Persie, Hazard and Lucas Moura in 2012 when he normally kept his cards close to his chest.

Following the Marca story , odds were slashed on his arrival at United various news outlets such as the Mirror and the Daily Mail followed suit, before Spanish journalist Guillem Balague ‘claimed’ United had already given Athletico Falcao a down payment in advance as they have done previously before signing David De Gea.

The report also suggested Hernandez would be used as part of a player plus cash deal, despite Ferguson saying Hernandez is ‘going nowhere‘ and Chicharito publicly stating his desire to stay with the club.

Given his recently transparent transfer dealings, there is nothing to suggest that Ferguson isn’t telling the truth about these Falcao rumours and with United needing investment in other areas, maybe it isn’t such a bad thing.

I ve read lots of comment and speculations regarding this summer but I bet u guys sir Alex knows what we are lacking and I believe he will do his best to fill in the right players. Welberk, Nani stays. Anderson, paul, Giggs, Valencial, are to leave if neccessarily.

A friend of mine works for Manchester United in their London offices. Its the Commercial Marketing team that focuses on all these opportunities like the airlines and AON deals. I asked him about any transfer news he may have stumbled upon. The first thing he said was “Gareth Bale…..that’s who the manager wants this summer”. If Spurs fail to qualify for the CL then apparently there is a chance of it happening because of an escape clause between £40-45 million.

I asked about Falcao and he said “probably not true”. Ferguson might make one big signing this summer, and if he does, then it will probably be Bale or nobody. He did say that there is a feeling around the place that Rooney will be going to PSG, but he didn’t have anything further to add. Only expressing his thoughts now,but he thinks Rooney might go to help fund Bale and if a striker arrives to replace Rooney, then it will more likely be Robert Lewandowski.

I’m not surprised, but would have loved it to be true. I still think we need to replace Rooney this summer. I’m convinced we need to freshen the team up this summer and Rooney, Nani and Anderson must go. If Ferguson is serious at winning the CL then he needs 4 strong signings.
