United table bid for Bundesliga striker claims agent

by Tom Parker

The agent of South Korean Heung-Min Son has claimed that both Manchester United and Chelsea have tabled bids for him.

The Hamburg forward has emerged as a key man for the Bundesliga outfit since the departure of Ruud van Nistelrooy, scoring 11 goals in 28 appearances this campaign.

And speaking to Interlive, Son’s agent Thies Bliemeister said that United have already bid on the player.

“A summer transfer? He has penned a new contract with Hamburg and extended by a year,” he said.

“But there are many bids on the table, from, among others, Manchester United and Chelsea.”

A fee of €12 million has been mooted with both Inter Milan and Tottenham also credited with an interest in the talented forward, who can also operate on the left and the right.

Bliemeister continued: “For now we talk of that figure. But it is obvious that if someone comes along with €20 million, they’ll get ahead of the competition.”

Son graduated from Hamburg’s youth academy and is now established as a regular for his national team, something the Glazer’s will be more than acutely aware of considering the commercial reach of many Asian footballers.

With high-profile departures at Hamburg in the summer, more onus was placed on the striker and he has responded emphatically.

Hamburg’s Director of Sport Frank Arnesen recently admitted that the club would like to keep the player but Hamburg would be powerless to hold on if a big bid came in, and the former Chelsea employee’s good relationship with his previous employers could swing a deal in their favour.

However, United have been tentatively linked to a number of strikers already this year including Robert Lewandowski and with Wayne Rooney’s future appearing to be firmly in central midfield, and the future of Javier Hernandez unsure, a new arrival in the striker department could be imminent.

If a bid has in fact been made, it seems quite incredible this has not been widely reported on already but United’s forays into the transfer market are becoming increasingly covert with the club unwilling to pay over the odds and as such have kept the cards close to their chests.

Sir Alex Ferguson has been on record stating that the transfer of Hernandez was one of his favourites due to the small fee paid and the ability to keep the deal hush.

But keeping a potentially £10 million plus deal quiet could prove challenging with plenty of other clubs interested in the 20-year-old

Rooney is not showing his quality only because there is no quality players in the team like in city and chelsea, watching united play is really boring when compared to keano time.nothing of interest,Rooney must not be happy because he hate united loose to chelsea or city as all united fans hate this.Bring on quality players to see best of Rooney, but selling rooney to psg it will bite back, cause its the worst mistake united will made.

@adam…..you forgot Giggs??? It doesnt matter because what u said sounds really CRAZY!!!!

How much money are u expecting us to spend?? Your bill must rake up close to £100 million spending. Spurs will never sell us Bale. Evra will not leave and Baines won’t arrive now. However Lewandoski and Strootman is possible if Rooney and Anderson leave this summer. Zaha will replace Nani.

This summer we should offload Wayne Rooney and Nani to PSG for £40 million. Rooney is a top player but we need to shake things up again and bring some freshness to the team. We should also sell Anderson for £7 million to FC Porto or a club in Brazil. Patrice Evra is another player who could move on this summer. He has been a brilliant servant for the club, but I could see him returning to AS Monaco to finish his career if they offer £5 million. I would expect Scholes and Fletcher to retire this summer.

We should then sign Robert Lewandowski for £20 million as a replacement for Rooney. They are not the same type of players, but Lewandowski is a top class striker and has shown that in Germany. I know we have been linked with the brilliant Radamel Falcao, but I think he is joining Chelsea this summer. We should the get Kevin Strootman for £12 million to solve the central midfield issue we have been happening. I think summer we could finally get Leighton Baines if Everton don’t qualify for the CL. Baines is 28 and will want a chance in the CL and we could get him for £10 million.

The big summer signing for Ferguson and Man Utd will hopefully be Gareth Bale. It will depend of Spurs not qualifying for the CL as I think this will enable Bale to leave through terms in his contract. I know he has been linked with Real Madrid but I think he would prefer to stay in England and we would be the best club for him. If Spurs don’t get CL then I think we might be able to sign him for £40-45 million. It is a lot of money but he is quality and only 23 years of age.
