It may only be a mock-up but if Radamel Falcao listens to Faustino Asprilla, who he idolised growing up, it could be a reality next season.

Falcao has been told by Asprilla that he has to join Manchester United if he wants to be regularly competing for trophies in the Premier League.

The 27-year-old is one of the best strikers on the planet having scored over 30 goals in each of the past four seasons for Atletico Madrid and Porto respectively.

And Colombian legend Asprilla, who is second in the national all-time goalscoring list, has told Falcao that United is the right place for him.

He said: “We were talking and he asked me my opinion on who he should join. He knows that every big club in the world wants him. He is not a player motivated by money – what he wants is somewhere that his family will be happy and where he will have success.

“If he signs for Manchester United – he would be their missing piece in the Champions League. Robin van Persie and Radamel would be unstoppable.” Faustino Asprilla

“With teams like Real Madrid, PSG, Manchester City they have good times then they have bad times – that is why I told him he must choose Manchester United. Every season they are challenging – and if he wants success that is where I have told him to go.”

Asprilla’s words will certainly carry some weight given his standing in Colombia and the ex-Newcastle striker believes that United is the right destination not just because of how they compete every season but because of the ethos of the club as a whole.

He continued: “Also they don’t have all the behaviour away from the field – with changing coaches every season.

“They are steady in all that they do – and a well run club at every level. He is a real family guy – and Radamel will appreciate that and the way that Sir Alex Ferguson protects his players like family.”

Will Falcao join Manchester United this summer? Have your say

“It is difficult for me to explain how good he is – he is the best finisher in the world. The only striker who has played in the Premier League who is on his finishing level is Alan Shearer.

“If he signs for Manchester United – he would be their missing piece in the Champions League. Robin van Persie and Radamel would be unstoppable.”

Rumours linking Falcao to United have steadily increased ever since Marca ran a front page splash claiming he was on his way to the club.

Although Ferguson has quashed rumours and Falcao has admitted he is not listening to the rumours, there is a real buzz around this potential transfer.

And you have to imagine that Falcao will listen to the words of advice from Asprilla given the fact he idolised him when he was a kid.

Speaking to The Times, Falcao admitted: “England? One day, I could go. It is a game I have watched for a long time and one day I would like to sample it.

“I used to watch it on television when I was a kid. Players like Roy Keane, Eric Cantona, [Gianfranco] Zola. But the one I supported was [Faustino] Asprilla, when he was at Newcastle. I think I could adapt to England. I think I could score goals.”

A potential partnership of Van Persie and Falcao is something that dreams are made of. Last season, no fan thought that United needed a striker before van Persie came in and look at how important he has been this season – maybe this summer will be the same with Falcao.

Yes i dont disagree with move for either Falcao(atl madrid) or Lewandoski(dortnund),Martinez(porto) but i think utd and sir alex should focus on bringing Ronaldo(madrid) back,James Rodrigues(porto) as we see Valencia and Nani not doing well, bale or di maria will fill the gap of Giggs in case he wants to go on coaching.central midfield has been our worst since retirement of keane and Scholes eventhough Carrick en Cleverly tried this season Carrick has experience but he is old i dont he make like this season next season because was lucky with no injury we so both Rooney and Jones.sometimes Giggs droping to central midfield role because anderson is injury prone and reliable so our centre this summer is to secure services of Gundogan(dortmund).Marchiso(juventus),Matic(benefica) and or Herrera(mexician) and also bring begovic (stoke city) to assist degea and lastly bring a young central defender like vantroghen(spurs) we shall retain our epl trophy and also challenge for domestic cups like league cup,fa cup and also european glory of champs league glori, glori, glori man utd.

Falcao is brilliant but very expensive. It seems he will be joining Chelsea. Maybe if they miss out on CL then he won’t join, having not experienced the competition yet. Lewandowski is joining Bayern Munich and that seems a done deal. Falcao still seems out of our price range.

We should perhaps focus on making the midfield stronger. A couple of quality center midfielders and a winger would be a big boost to the squad. Upfront we can work on Kagawa playing off RVP and pushing Hernandez to become even better.

In midfield I would love Claudio Marchisio to arrive as he is a top class midfielder. I wouldn’t think it was possible but Pogba might make him available. If spurs miss out on CL then we should push for Bale.

Yeah I would agree that Falcao is probably too expensive for us. It would be a great signing and, like Asprilla said, a partnership with him and RVP would be incredible. We are not renown for spending £45-50 million on one player. I think Falcao will join Chelsea and Lewondowski will join Bayern Munich.

We do have four strikers already in RVP, Rooney, Welbeck and Hernandez. I know a lot of people would like to see Rooney leave, but I think Ferguson is challenging him to come back stronger and push himself again. Ferguson has made efforts to talk up Lewondowski, and he has been subbing Rooney off nearly every game, so I think its a message being sent. Rooney has to work harder over the summer, and not go on holiday to start drinking, eating fatty food and smoking. He came back overweight last summer and in no shape for the season. I think if he is serious about his football, he will come back this summer in the best shape of his life and be ready to prove to the world that he is one of the top players.

Ferguson should probably focus on securing some strong midfielders. Again I would also like Claudio Marchisio but I think its all a plot to get a better contract from Juventus. However he might fancy a new challenge and Pogba has caused a tactical change that he is apparently not too happy about. It might be worth a £22 million bid because he would make us a better team. We need to get in a top class a wide player like James Rodriguez. If Spurs miss out on CL then its worth seeing about Bale, but Leavy won’t sell him to Man Utd.
