Ronaldo leads worldwide tributes for Ferguson

On the back of the shock announcement that Sir Alex Ferguson is set to retire from management at the end of the season and take up a directors role at the club, tributes have flooded in from far and wide.

Ex-players, current players and those involved with football around the world have had their say on Ferguson’s retirement after 26 years at the helm of United.

Cristiano Ronaldo @Cristiano – Thanks for everything, Boss.

David Beckham – As I have said many times before the boss wasn’t just the greatest and best manager I ever played under he was also a father figure to me from the moment I arrived at the club at the age of 11 until the day I left.

Bryan Robson – It came as a surprise. He’s probably the greatest manager there’s ever been. ‘To be at Manchester United for 27 years is a magnificent achievement never mind to win what he’s won.

Rio Ferdinand – The bosses work ethic, his desire to win + to make us better players were unrivalled. Thanks boss.

Radamel Falcao @FALCAO – WOW Sir Alex Ferguson retires! Congratulations on a run just awesome. Standing clap, clap!

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – I will never forget the loyalty he showed me. Everything I have learnt I have learnt from the boss.

Michael Owen @themichaelowen – Its just not sinking in! Manchester United with no Sir Alex just doesn’t feel right. What a man and great that it has ended on his terms.

Peter Schmeichel @Pschmeichel1 – Disappointed, shocked, sad. Didn’t think THAT day would be today.

Vincent Kompany @VincentKompany – Sir Alex, one of the best managers of all time. After 26 years of success in the game, we all owe him a tribute.

Shaun Wright Phillips @swp29 – #Salute to Sir Alex Ferguson definitely the greatest premier league manager the countries ever seen. Correction greatest football manager ever.

Neil Lennon @OfficialNeil – The game just wont be the same without Sir Alex… What a contribution he has made to the game… doubt anyone will ever replicate it.

Ruud Van Nistelrooy @RvN1776 – 2001-2006, 219 games, 150 goals under the most successful manager in football history. It was a unique privilege.

Chelsea FC @chelseafc – All at #CFC would like to wish Sir Alex Ferguson the very best in his retirement. He has been a fantastic adversary over 26 years.

Michael Essien @MichaelEssien – Sir Alex. A legend and one of the greatest managers ever. Good luck in your retirement. #respect

Rory Mcilroy @McIlroyRory – An end of an era today! Sir Alex Ferguson, the greatest of all time! United will have a tough time trying to replace him.

David Cameron– Sir Alex Ferguson’s achievement at Manchester United has been exceptional. Hopefully his retirement will make life a little easier for my team Aston Villa.

#ThankYouSirAlex
