Manchester United’s 18 year old Belgian playmaker Adnan Januzaj has once again staked a claim to be part of next years senior setup with a superb solo performance in the Blue Stars FIFA Youth Cup in Zurich where he scored all four of United’s goals.
United won their first two games of the tournament defeating Blue Stars 2-0 through a Januzaj double and they triumphed over Torino with the highly rated youth protégé Januzaj getting both of the goals again.
The Reds then drew 0-0 with hosts FC Zurich to miss out on qualification to the final stages on goal difference but they were unfortunately beaten 2-0 by Basel in the third/fourth place play off as Joyce gave the substitutions some game time.
The young Belgian sensation was recently awarded a first team squad number due to his magnificent performances for the U21s throughout this campaign and his latest good run of form in Zurich will no doubt raise a few eyebrows at the club, with the incoming David Moyes likely to look to the youth to help his progress at the club.
And the most impressive part of Januzaj scoring all four goals is that he is not even a striker. He normally operates as a wide player who occasionally drifts inside but he certainly showed he has a good eye for goal in Zurich.
United’s U21s will now be looking to book their place in the elite group U21s play off final with a win over Liverpool this coming Tuesday night at Old Trafford.
If they win, they will go into the final which is set to be played a week this Saturday with the venue yet to be confirmed.
