Robin van Persie has collected his second Barclays Premier League Golden Boot in a row after netting 26 goals in the league.
The 29-year-old Dutchman becomes the first player ever to win two consecutive Golden Boots with two different clubs.
His goals spearheaded United’s title winning campaign and there are so many individual goals that van Persie scored which were so important to the title.
From a hat-trick against Southampton, a last minute winner against Manchester City and a goal of the season volley against Aston Villa, van Persie
And speaking about his Golden Boot, van Persie refused to accept it without paying tribute to the whole Manchester United team.
“The Premier League title means everything and the Golden Boot is a bit extra,” he said.
“They should make 25 Golden Boots because we do it together.
“This is a great team and hopefully we can go for even more trophies. I’m sure we can.
“Next year we have a new manager and we`re looking forward to it, it`s a new challenge. We have a nice break and then we go again.”
There haven’t been many debut seasons as good as van Persie’s at United. His impact has been akin to that of Eric Cantona. Ferguson’s last gift to Manchester United was van Persie and the Premier League title and looking ahead at next year, there is no reason that van Persie cannot make it three Golden Boot’s in a row.
