Yohann Cabaye admits he is ‘very interested’ in Manchester United move

by Sam Peoples

Yohann Cabaye has admitted that he is interested in a move to Manchester United if it were to materialise this summer.

The 27-year-old was one of the Premier League’s outstanding performers in his debut season with Newcastle United and despite his limited impact last year due to injuries, he is still one of the league’s best all-round midfielders.

Cabaye has previously spoken of his admiration for United as a club when he labelled them as a ‘machine’ that Manchester City couldn’t compete with and it seems he is openly inviting United to make an offer for him.

In a very open interview with Gregory Novak, of French channel Canal+, Cabaye admitted that a move to United would be something he would be very interested in.

When asked about about his interest in a potential move to United, he said: “Yes of course, I’ve liked this club for a long time, I like what they do, the boss has left but they have appointed a very good successor, and he did some very good things with Everton.

“They are always well placed amongst the big clubs, yes for sure it could be an interesting challenge. He then finished by adding “But, as I’ve said, for the moment there’s nothing concrete and I am still at Newcastle.”

Given that he only cost £4 million when Newcastle signed him from Lille, Cabaye would not command an extortionate fee and he has already proven himself as an established midfielder in the Premier League.

Committed tackling, strong passing and an eye for goal are characteristics that define Cabaye’s all-round style of play and he could well be the perfect player to slot into United’s midfield given his range of attributes.

United are likely to add at least one established central midfielder this season given the full retirement of Paul Scholes, the ongoing health issues with Darren Fletcher and the continuing fluctuation in form from Tom Cleverley and Anderson.

There have already been strong links to Marouane Fellaini, Kevin Strootman and Thiago Alcantara this summer and given Newcastle’s poor season last year, United would be in a strong position to negotiate if they made a move for the Frenchman.

Do you think Yohann Cabaye would be a good signing for Manchester United?

Cabaye is a fine player, but I really hope Moyes goes all out and tries to sign Paulinho from Corinthians. Th guy is highly rated and is a beast of a player. A box to box Brazilian midfielder who can defend and push forward to score goals. We need more goals from midfield and this guy has that in his locker. I think alongside Carrick they would form a good partnership. Corinthians have confirmed that £17 million will be his price tag and it could prove to be a bargain.

Tim Vickery, who is a highly respected sports journalist based in Brazil, has raved about Paulinho and has said he is shocked tat Premiership clubs aren’t kicking the door down for him. In his own words he has said that Paulinho is a better player than Fernandinho, the player Man City just paid £30 million for. Paulinho is also only 25 and so has experience, but is only now coming into his best years. I think he would be a great signing for Man Utd and for David Moyes.

I would also love Thiago Alcantatra to arrive this summer as well, but Paulinho would be at the top of my wish list. I wouldn’t be surprised if Moyes wanted 2 new central midfielders, especially if Rooney is trying to engineer and move away this summer. Moyes might want to build a stronger midfield and allow Kagawa, Welbeck and Hernandez to take more responsibility and step into Rooney’s shoes.
