Nani breaks silence over Manchester United exit

by Sam Peoples

Nani has admitted he is yet to decide whether or not he will stay at Manchester United next season.

The 26-year-old’s contract expires at the end of 2013/14 and another inconsistent year at Old Trafford, with his first substantial injury at the club, limited the impact he had on proceedings.

His most memorable moment was the controversy against Real Madrid and in what is going to be a busy summer, Nani has increased speculation he will move away this year.

He said: “My future? Nothing is certain.

“I am calm. I have everything in my hands.

“I am not saying that I will not continue at Manchester United. I will think about what is best for me.”

Nani has already been linked with a move to Galatasaray but the Turkish club pulled out of negotiations and claimed that United were willing to sell the winger for €10 million.

Although Nani may be looking for a move away from Old Trafford this year, he has ruled out an immediate return to his homeland Portugal.

He continued: “I have respect for the Portuguese clubs, especially Sporting Lisbon but also Benfica and Porto, but I don’t think that is viable.

“I think my level at the moment is different.”

Of United’s three out-and-out wingers in Nani, Young and Valencia, the Portuguese star is the one I would be most keen to hold onto.

On his day, he is a world beater and there is no denying that but his problem is that we don’t see that Nani often enough.

The nature of being a winger is that your form will go through peaks and troughs but unfortunately for Nani, there have been too many lows and not enough highs.

But I’d be very surprised if United were willing to let Nani go for €10 million given that it would be almost impossible to replace a player of his talent for that price.

Nani may frustrate fans but for me, he simply has to stay because you would rather be angry at a player for trying and failing with a shot than a player who turns back and simply passes to a team-mate.
