Ryan Giggs becomes first United player to laud Thiago signing

by Tom Parker

Ryan Giggs has become the first Manchester United player to publicly back the clubs well documented pursuit over Thiago Alcantara.

Thiago, who was recently crowned as the best player at the Under 21 European Championships, appears set to move to Old Trafford with personal terms widely reported to have been already agreed.

Giggs, who was speaking to Spanish publication Marca, appeared to be excited over the possibility of the 22-year-old La Masia graduate joining the club.

“I’ve seen him in several games. He’s a good player,” he said.

“But there’s always a lot of speculation with United and good players.

“We’ll see if it happens in the end, but he’s a big talent.”

The 39-year-old stalwart could be set for a back room role at United and will more than likely be called upon by David Moyes who will be keen to tap into the Welshman’s vast experience.

As such, his opinion carries plenty of weight, so it’s good to see Giggs praise Thiago’s quality as a player.

Critically on this occasion, United have gotten out in front early and perhaps even more importantly the player appears really keen to play for the club after a mixed few years for Barcelona where he has failed to become a regular starter for Barça. His bargain release clause should not provide an obstacle, given the potential Thiago has shown.

Giggs, currently in Turkey studying for his UEFA pro license (he’ll become the first ever active player to obtain a pro license should he receive it), also spoke about his plans when he finally calls time on his illustrious 22 year playing career.

He continued: “I still haven’t decided what I want to do when I retire. Coach, manage the youngsters, become a manager – who knows. I want to be better prepared. I will decide in two or three years, when I’m ready.”

I fully agree that he should spell correctly but your spelling of “its” should be “it’s” – a spelling error on your part? Pot calling kettle black?! Did you call him a retard? Maybe he is….but what does that make you?!?
