Manchester United fans give coach the send off he deserves

by Sam Peoples

I would like to thank Sir Alex Ferguson, the owners, all colleagues, players and fans who made my time at Manchester United very special and one I will never forget. I wish everyone at this great football club all the best.” Rene Meulensteen

Manchester United have finally confirmed Rene Meulensteen’s departure putting an end to his 12 year association with the club after weeks of speculation.

The 49-year-old’s exit was not a surprise given the widespread changes since Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure but Meulensteen’s exit is more disappointing than the others.

And fans took to Twitter to say their thanks to the Dutchman and soon enough, his name was trending in Manchester.

In his time at the club, Meulensteen was in charge of the youth and reserve teams before he spent five years as first team coach.

Van Persie openly praised his impact on him as a player and he is widely regarded as being a fine coach and man manager.

It is a shame that he is leaving the club but Ferguson’s era has come to an end and so has Meulensteen’s. He will be fondly remembered as a key figure behind the scenes for United’s success in the past five years.

With job offers likely to come in for Meulensteen from both England and his homeland Holland, I’d be surprised if we didn’t see him in new employment before the summer is over.

Good luck Rene, and thanks.

Thank You Rene for your years of loyalty and contributions to the club and squad……..we shall always remember you and what you have done for the club. As fans, we are bitterly disappointed that Moyes does not have the vision to retain your expert services; perhaps he does not want to be associated with Fergie and his era should the club win another award.

Anyway, best wishes to you and your future endeavors.
