PICTURE: Buttner setting the perfect pre-season example

by Sam Peoples

buttner-fitnessAlexander Buttner’s debut season at Manchester United culminated in his first medal with us reclaiming the Premier League title and the 24-year-old made 13 appearances, scoring twice, along the way.

Given that he made the transition to the physicality of the Premier League, Buttner did well. He was found lacking defensively at times but in the attacking sense, he made himself a real threat.

You’d forgive Buttner for having a break in the summer but the Dutchman has shown a real tenacity to force his way in front of Patrice Evra by using the summer to get himself fitter and stronger.

From running and weight to training to boxing, Buttner is committed to getting himself in the best possible shape ahead of United’s 2013 pre-season tour of Asia. It’s great commitment to see and exactly the sort of thing that will impress incoming boss David Moyes.

Last season, Buttner’s natural attacking side flourished immediately whereas his defensive discipline found him out of position quite often and I’d like to see Moyes give him an opportunity as a left winger.

And if he continues his summer in the same fashion he has done, there is no reason why he can’t establish himself as an important player for United in what is going to be a season full of changes.

I reckon butners is goin to improve a lot more this season but you cudnt fault evra’s game, especialy 2nd half of the season.he wears the utd jearsey with pride, great at defending and goin forward also grabing afew goals.i can see butner getting more game time this season and maybe the following season he could replace evra.
