Jorge Espericueta has expressed his delight at being linked to Manchester United whilst away on international duty with Mexico at the U20 World Cup in Turkey.
The 18-year-old only made his professional debut in early September for Mexican aide Tigres but has impressed at the World Cup en route to helping Mexico into the quarter final.
Speaking about a potential move to Old Trafford, Espericueta told Mediotempo: “It is a joy and a motivation [being linked to United].
“There will be time for everything but now it’s time for this [the tournament].”
Espericueta is an unknown quantity even inside his homeland Mexico but in typical Hernandez fashion, he marked his professional debut with a goal from the bench so the early sign is promising.
South American players often see a move to Europe as a chance to build a name for themselves at a top club and Espericueta is no different.
Of late, the club have aimed to recruit the best young talents in world football. While British youngsters are integral to United’s youth squads, foreign players have become more prominent.
Adnan Januzaj earned the Denzil Haroun Reserve Player of the Year last season while Charni Ekangamane, Michele Fornasier, and Paul Pogba are recent examples of United cherry-picking youngsters from other clubs.
However, United certainly appear to be looking further afield than just Europe given Varela’s arrival from Penarol and the likes of Jurgen Damm coming on trial to the club last year.
Given the success of fellow Mexican Chicharito at the club, Espericueta could become the latest in a long line of foreign players to join United’s youth ranks.

Mexico is not in South or Central America. It is part of the North American continent. You can never have enough good midfielders. The more the merrier because they can always be sold!
