Guardiola confirms he wants to sign Thiago ahead of Manchester United

Pep Guardiola has confirmed that he would like to sign Thiago Alcantara from Barcelona this summer as his protracted move away from Spain takes another twist.

Last night, news broke from journalist Juanmo Castano on COPE radio that Thiago already agreed to sign for Bayern Munich.

Although that is clearly not the case with Guardiola merely confirming interest, it places a big grey cloud over where he will move this summer.

“I want Thiago Alcantara. Have asked (Bayern to get him) Don’t know what will happen,” Guardiola said at a press conference this morning.

“I know him very well. I talked to Rummenigge and Sammer about him, we will wait and then see.

“I don’t think (adding another midfielder) will be a problem. I spoke to club about my concept and told them why I want Thiago Alcantara.”

“Thiago is the only player I want, that’s what I told them. It will be him or no one.

“We have many players but we the need the special (quality) that Thiago Alcantara brings.”

The news will come as a massive blow to United fans given that we looked in prime position to sign Thiago from Barcelona but with Guardiola’s Munich joining the picture, it puts United in second place.

The 22-year-old’s desire to leave Barcelona stems from not getting enough game time ahead of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and while United is a much bigger guarantee of first team football, Guardiola insisted that his place at Munich would be there for him.

“Nobody will leave Barcelona, unless they feel they won’t play much. He wants to play. That’s why I proposed him to the club,” he continued.

“Javier Martinez can play at centre back, he played very well there with Atletico.”

This is the first official confirmation of interest in Thiago with United remaining silent over any potential pursuit of the player and with Thiago expected to return from holiday in the coming days, a decision from the player is going to happen very soon.

There we go, while Moyes acts a true gentleman by not talking about players currently contracted to other teams, Guardiola takes a march on him by openly admitting that he wants Thiago, and just Thiago, to join him at Bayern. Man Utd’s continuous silence about their interest for Alcantara, backed by their all so familiar slow progression in sealing deals of late, including this deal, has made me already question their appointment of Moyes and Woodward. Surely, if we miss out on a player such as Thiago ‘s talent, these two would got to take the blame. I feel Moyes should have returned early, much early, from his holiday’s to tie up a very important deal for a very exciting and great talent in Thiago Alcantara. As soon as the U21 champioships ended. But he and Man Utd management made this straight foward transfer (£17m buy out clause) drag on, and on giving Bayern and Pep a sniff!

Honestly , I am very disappointed with the way Manchester united have gone about this transfer . It was very clear that it would take abnormal circumstances for Thiago to leave Barca . The prospect of getting better playing time was the only reason that would have convinced him and we should have sealed the deal long ago instead of allowing rumors of Chelsea and bayern to come into it .

Finally guardiola has spoken and compared to Mr David Moyes’ voice, any Thiago in the world will prefer to listen to a PEP ( No disrespect to the BOSS but with time he would build his own REP) .

I just feel bad because right from time the speculation was too good to be true . We are about to loose another potential football great just like we lost Ronaldinho and it is likely to set us back sometime again. It would have also given a lot of credibility to Mr Moyes and I would be gutted so much when Bayern signs him .

Honestly , I would be emotionally exhausted because I have anticipated this all summer and refreshed my browser endlessly checking all united related websites praying for good news .

Next time , we shouldn’t dwindle too long on a transfer , if you want him , you get him . The manager flies down with every meaningful exec and seals a deal . SIMPLE .

LUCAS MOURA PART 2 ( This time , a far greater player )

There is only ONE UNITED

Did Guardiola really say this ???
Not like him to speak about other players that are still under contract
