Manchester United to make £35 million bid for Fabregas claims Sky Sports

by Sam Peoples

Manchester United are going to make a £35 million bid to sign Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona according to Sky sources.

The 26-year-old has been linked with a move away to United this summer but the rumours had quietened down in the midst of the Thiago saga.

Now that the 22-year-old has officially decided to join Bayern Munich, they have resurfaced with Sky’s bold claim that United are going to put in a massive £35 million bid for him.

It looks like the bid is genuine with The Telegraph’s Mark Ogden and The Mirror’s David McDonnell both reporting the news but they state that the bid is €30 million, someway short of Sky Sports £35 million claims.

Earlier in the summer, ex-United left back Denis Irwin boldly claimed that United were ‘desperate’ to sign Cesc Fabregas and that he was their top target this summer, so the interest in Fabregas could be genuine.

“Cesc Fabregas has zoomed up Manchester United’s transfer target list to the top position and the champions are going to move heaven and earth to get him.” Denis Irwin

But when the rumours originally surfaced, Fabregas labelled the prospect of him leaving Barcelona as ‘completely absurd’ in an interview with Marca in June.

“I’ve always said that I’m happy at Barca. Whoever says that I’m leaving doesn’t know me and has never spoken with me,” he said.

“Nor with my agent, because he knows that I don’t want him to talk with other people about me. I’m very private and I don’t even talk about these things with my family.

“If someone says anything that isn’t that I want to play at Barca, it’s completely absurd.”

David Moyes revealed that Thiago was never a priority for him and that he knows United need to sign a midfielder, so signing Fabregas ticks all the boxes on paper.

And Guillem Balague has gone one step further by saying that United have already made a bid for Fabregas.

In terms of game time, Fabregas made 48 appearances for Barcelona last season which was precisely the same amount of games as Andres Iniesta and Xavi Hernandez, so it wouldn’t be down to a lack of first team action that Fabregas would leave Barcelona.

What United could offer him that Barcelona couldn’t is the spotlight. He would be the conductor in our midfield and really be able to reaffirm his status in Spain’s national side ahead of the 2014 World Cup.

Agree with Rhodri Edwards and Uwazzy; this is a joke. This has been handled so badly; why didn’t we make this bid weeks ago, it just doesn’t make any sense. Either Moyes is really clever or really stupid. If you had a choice of both you’d take Fabregas any day. So why make this bid now just after Thiago has gone Bayern. They could have done it before he left to shown he was our priority.

So now we can be made to look like mugs by 2 players…great.

Please Moyes , Don’t do this to yourself . You are about to turn into the laughing stock of the transfer market . Cesc would embarass us with that ” Barca is where my heart is press conference” and arsenal and the rest of the world will celebrate.

Even if we wanted to make such a signing , we should have made the bid before thiago was sold to Bayern . Now , they are light in numbers in that department and will never sell to United . This would only end badly for us .

It only goes to show what I said earlier, David moyes is not being decisive in his dealings . He should have made up his mind since and made a bid . Now an embarrassment lies in the waiting.

Complete waste of time, don’t get me wrong fantastic player and exactly the type of player we need .. But, Barca have just let thiago slip away and are hardly going to be in a rush to sell another midfielder, plus fabregas is an arsenal fan so that presents another stumbling block aswel as the fact arsenal have first refusal, can’t help but think this is a complete waste of time
