David De Gea has admitted it would be ‘great’ if Cesc Fabregas joined Manchester United so that he would have a Spanish compatriot in the side.
The 26-year-old is the latest in a string of midfielders to have been linked with a move to United but unlike other rumours, United have already lodged a €30 million bid for him.
And De Gea has become the first United player to publicly speak about Fabregas since the bid was made public.
“It would be great if Cesc came here,” he told The Mirror.
“It would be great to have more Spanish players at Manchester United.
“He’s a great player; very skilful, knows how to win things. You always want those type of players in your team.”
De Gea adopted similar tactics in trying to woo Thiago Alcantara to United, so let’s hope that he has more success this time with Fabregas.
The pair have not played together for Spain just yet because De Gea is still waiting for his opportunity to take over from Iker Casillas but having a Spaniard at the club already would certainly help Fabregas settle in at Old Trafford.
