PICTURE: Manchester United’s potential dream team without Rooney

by Sam Peoples

Manchester United rejecting Chelsea’s initial offer of £10 million plus Juan Mata or David Luiz for Wayne Rooney may be a surprise to some but it was never going to be accepted.

The 27-year-old’s transfer away from Old Trafford is likely to be a long, drawn out affair but if we are going to have to sell to a domestic rival in Chelsea, you can bet your bottom dollar that it will be for top dollar.

And while Rooney will likely have a renaissance at Chelsea, the United that could shape up because of the money his transfer would raise is phenomenal.

Juan Mata was named Chelsea’s Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year last season, and he’s a damn likable guy. Why would United not want him?

united-without-rooneyIf United can get between £15-20 million plus Juan Mata for Rooney, not only will it bring in a world class player and some funds but it will free up £250,000 per week in wages that would allow United to delve further into the transfer market.

We have already bid €30 million for Fabregas so there is already a budget there and if United could pull off signing the Barcelona midfielder, our starting XI could look like this.

With overlapping full backs and a dynamic attacking three playing in behind Van Persie, United would be able to play free flowing football at it’s absolute finest. The versatility of Kagawa, Mata and Welbeck/Nani/Zaha/Valencia/Young all playing behind Van Persie would make our attack so strong.

And having Fabregas line up alongside Carrick behind them would give a midfield stability that we have yearned for for a long time.

There is certainly a big fear that Rooney will once again become a 30+ goals striker at Chelsea and I am confident that he would, but the balance of our squad would look so much stronger if we sold him and invested the cash elsewhere. So, for the sake of the side, I feel that Rooney’s time is up.

seriously?? without rooney??? he’s the one who lifts up the team wen others give up. if we are come back kings he’s one of the main reason for it… jus giv him a contract extension n let him retire here.. jus his presence wil win us matches..

Wouldnt have welbeck would be zaha and evra to go and baines to come in my line up would be same formation but it would be Rafael Jones Garay Baines Carrick Fabregas Zaha Kagawa Mata Rvp

jim_southstand 07/17/2013 - 12:47

The team is better with Rooney in it! Wellbeck and Rafael on the right? Wonder where our Weakness is? We need Rooney playing with RVP, Kagawa still has to prove himself, even he admits that. Wellbeck is still a kid, who Dosent score goals, love to know where the goals will come from apart from RVP?

What about this for a team. De Gea, Rafael, Evans, Ferdinand, Evra, Nani, Giggs, Anderson, Young, Welbeck, Hernandez. A bit crap but more realistic. Glazers in the money but they wont be spending it.

iloveanderson 07/17/2013 - 12:22

Where is Phil Jones the greatest footballer that ever lived. How is he not in the team???
