Buttner’s agent Alexander Bursac has insisted that David Moyes will buy Leighton Baines if Patrice Evra leaves the club despite a deal not going through.
And the move would place question marks over the future of Buttner with Bursac admitting that the Dutchman could potentially look away from Old Trafford if chances don’t come his way.
Speaking to Goal, Bursac said: “Moyes knows Baines very well, so he will play [if he signs from Everton].
“A transfer from Evra to Monaco did not go through. If Evra leaves, Moyes wants Baines. Baines is an English international, 29 years old and more experienced. Alex is the coming man.
“If Baines arrives, the chances [for Buttner] to play are even less then last year. That would be a shame, because Alex wants to play for the Dutch national team next season.”
Buttner had a good debut season at United making 13 appearances for the first team on route to securing his first Premier League medal.
“Alex developed very well last season and he had done a good job in preparing for next season,” Bursac continued.
“At the moment he has a small groin injury.
“For Alex it would be better for a younger left-back to come so he could become first choice. He has already proved himself in the Premier League.
“It’s difficult to estimate what will happen, but he has alternatives, from Turkey for example. I’m not worried about that. But he wants to succeed at United.”
The 23-year-old’s attacking endeavor is admirable but his defensive frailties have placed real doubts about whether he has the quality to make it at United in the long term.
Against poor opposition today in Hong Kong, he struggled once again with his defensive duties and was at fault for Kitchee’s second goal.
But with Evra likely to go nowhere given his importance to the United side, Buttner will likely have at least another season to prove himself at Old Trafford.
