Barcelona manager Gerardo Martino has insisted that it is up to Cesc Fabregas as to whether he will remain a Barcelona player this summer.
Martino’s admission indicates that Barcelona have accepted or are willing to accept a bid from Manchester United should Fabregas want to leave.
Speaking after Barcelona’s 8-0 victory over Santos, Martino said: “I’ve talked to Cesc, I explained him my idea.
“Of course we want him to stay, he’s one of the best in the squad, so it’s up to him.”
It is a stark contrast to Martino’s comments last week that indicated that Fabregas was not for sale at any price and that his transfer away from Barcelona was impossible.
Fabregas was in scintillating form tonight as Barcelona rampaged to an 8-0 victory over Santos. He scored Barcelona’s fourth and fifth goals, laid off an assist for Dongou and crashed a free-kick against the post.
The 26-year-old was simply unplayable in the middle of the park and showcased just why he is such a coveted world class midfielder.
With the season fast approaching and speculation set to continue, Fabregas will have to make his decision sooner rather than later but the longer he leaves it, the possibility of him leaving the Camp Nou will continue to grow.
