Barcelona sporting director Andoni Zubizaretta has claimed that Manchester United’s pursuit of Cesc Fabregas has ended.
United have already had two bids for the 26-year-old midfielder rejected by the Spanish club and with a third bid expected imminently, Zubizaretta has claimed their pursuit of Fabregas is futile.
Speaking to Spanish daily SPORT, Zubizarreta said: “Manchester United are interested in the player, but it’s also true that they understand our position of not wanting to sell.
“They have renounced his signing. We aren’t going to sell him.
“He has a contract with us. We count on Cesc. I said that on the day of the presentation of Tito (Vilanova) and also with Tata (new coach Gerardo Martino).
“He’s an extraordinary player who creates and finishes chances. We are delighted with him. He’s the number four of Barca.”
Barcelona’s mixed signals continue to be leaked to the press. From Martino saying that Fabregas’ future was up to him, Zubizaretta has claimed that the club has absolutely no intention of selling him to contradict Martino’s statement.
It is not clear as to whether Barcelona is genuinely considering selling Fabregas but so long as these mixed signals continued to be leaked to the press, speculation will mount regarding his move to Old Trafford.
