Manchester United’s Reserves beat Manchester City 2-1 to retain the Lancashire Senior Cup thanks to goals from Davide Petrucci and Jesse Lingard.

City took the lead through Tchumeni-Nimely before Petrucci equalised and Lingard stepped up in the 75th minute to convert the penalty that won United the cup.

It is the second year in a row the Reserves have won the trophy and the 15th time since it’s inception that we have lifted the Lancashire Senior Cup.

For Warren Joyce’s side, it is the second successive treble of cups having also won the Manchester Senior Cup and Barclays U21s Premier League and caps a great year for the Reserves, in particular Jesse Lingard.

The 20-year-old winger enjoyed a fantastic pre-season tour with the senior squad having scored four goals in five games and he continued that fine form with the winner for the Reserves last night, so he is doing all the right things to get himself an opportunity with the senior squad this season.
