Wayne Rooney gets full backing of Manchester United squad

Michael Carrick has come out in support of Wayne Rooney‘s situation at Manchester United and said that the whole squad is behind him all the way.

The 27-year-old featured for 30 minutes against Swansea and laid on two assists in an admirable cameo given his lack of game time but his reaction to United’s third goal has led to some further criticism of his attitude towards the club.

Despite that, Carrick has indicated that the squad are fully in support of Rooney at United and want him to stay at Old Trafford.

“Yes. I thought he came on and looked good,” Carrick said.

“He set up two goals and that’s what he’s all about. He’s a real threat. He got a bit of a whack [on his Achilles] when he made Danny’s second but I’m sure he’ll be all right. He’s a big Manchester United player. He’s one of us and we all stick together.

“When we’re on the pitch we fight for each other and do what we can for Wayne. He’s certainly part of that.”

Nobody knew what sort of reaction Rooney would get from the travelling United fans but his name was chanted as soon as he started warming up and Carrick was glad to see that.

“He’s given this club an awful lot so the fans support him and we support him,” he continued.

“As I said, we stick together. It was a good day.”

Phil Jones shared Carrick’s praise towards the fans’ reaction of Rooney’s appearance. “That was great [the fans cheering]”, he said.

“He is a fantastic player and he did well when he came on. He came on and did the job. He did well. The manager and all the lads are pleased.”

In reality, no United player or fan wants to see Rooney leave the club even if he has taken the club for a ride. He is still one of the best centre forwards on the planet and it would be almost impossible to replace a player of his talent, especially with so little time left in the transfer window.

With the full support of Moyes, the players and the fans, there is nothing else that the club can do to show Rooney why he should stay but even if he does want to leave, there is no reason to suggest his wish would be fulfilled.
