Ander Herrera tells Athletic Bilbao he wants to join Manchester United

Ander Herrera has told Athletic Bilbao that he wants to move to Manchester United according to leading Basque newspaper El Correo.

Earlier today, the same newspaper claimed that Bilbao may bring an extra player to their match against Real Madrid if Herrera decides to not feature due to the ongoing Manchester United interest and the reports indicate it is now simply a waiting game for the clubs to agree a fee.

El Correo correctly called Fernando Llorente’s move away from Athletic Bilbao to Juventus months in advance, so they have a good track record in regards to Bilbao news and the latest update indicates that Herrera is keen on a move despite his father’s admission that it would be a difficult one for him.

The 24-year-old would benefit from an improved salary and UEFA Champions League football at Old Trafford, something which would help him become noticed by Spain boss Vicente Del Bosque ahead of Brazil 2014.

In the past 24 hours The Times, Telegraph, Express and Sunday People have all reported stories with similar stances regarding Herrera. This should be seen as good news to United fans as with Herrera willing to move, and United willing to agree the deal by meeting the clause, he could be a United player by Monday.

Despite a fee that would break United’s transfer record previously held by Dimitar Berbatov at £30.75m, Herrera is a brilliant player and someone every United fan should be excited about – a central midfielder.

El Correo will be publishing more information regarding the Herrera story today, so The Peoples Person will bring you the latest news when it happens.
