David Moyes has confirmed that Wayne Rooney has suffered a bad cut on his forehead that will keep him out of action for a few weeks.
The accident happened yesterday in training when Phil Jones‘ studs collided with Rooney’s head at Carrington and it means that he won’t play in today’s game against Liverpool at Anfield.
Speaking to Sky Sports before kick-off, Moyes said: “It was completely accidental but is quite a bad cut. It’ll probably keep him out for a few weeks.
“Rooney would have started if he was fit but we’re confident with the team we have got.”
The 27-year-old has not had much luck with injuries having suffered hamstring and shoulder injuries prior to this accidental cut. Rooney’s injury means he will play no part in England’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers but the big question will be whether he is fit enough to play in the Manchester derby on September 22.
