Manchester United’s deadline day pursuit of Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera has ended and he will not move to Old Trafford.
AS reported in the last 20 minutes that the €36 million plus taxes release clause for Herrera had not been paid by United and the player has changed his mind on a move because of being left hanging.
United’s representatives arrived at the LFP headquarters but due to their lack of knowledge regarding the tax laws in Spain, they were unable to pay the full deposit for Herrera who will now remain an Athletic Bilbao player.
Underhand dealings on Herrera deal tonight. Spoken to some seriously pissed off people who've been working on it. It's a mess.

Guillem Balague has even reported that the representatives who were at the LFP headquarters may not have been United representatives and they were simply imposters. This has not been confirmed.
