Whelan: I have heard that Marouane Fellaini is definitely going

Wigan chairman Dave Whelan has been told that Marouane Fellaini is definitely leaving Everton this summer amid Everton’s interest in James McCarthy.

Roberto Martinez has already had a £12 million offer for McCarthy rejected by his former club and Everton returning with an improved offer depends on cash brought in by the sale of Fellaini.

Speaking to the Irish IndependentWhelan said: “Roberto is chasing James,” said Whelan. “If Everton sell Fellaini, they’re going to come in again for our boy.

“It depends whether Fellaini goes today. I have heard that he’s definitely going.

“If Fellaini goes, Everton are going to get their £30m or whatever. Roberto knows what James is valued at so they’ve got to come back in with the right amount. You’ve got to be talking £14m or maybe a little more.”

David Moyes has already had two bids for Fellaini rejected and is expected to make another move for the Belgian midfielder today.

And Whelan also told the Irish Examiner that Everton feel United losing to Liverpool has given them more power in any negotiations.

“That’s just what he (Martinez) has been saying,” he said.

“United losing changes the thing a bit. They might be upping their offer now. They’ll be desperate now to get a midfield player and Fellaini is a good player. And what happens there will dictate what happens to our lad.”

With 11 hours left of transfer deadline day, movement will have to be swift if Moyes wants to strengthen his squad before it closes tonight.
