Robin Van Persie ready to follow in the footsteps of Ryan Giggs

Robin van Persie is ready to emulate the career of Ryan Giggs and believes he can continue at the highest level for another ten years.

The 30-year-old Dutch international is also confident that his participation in the 2014 Brazil World Cup won’t be his last in a major tournament

Speaking to NUSport whilst on international duty with the Netherlands, van Persie said: “We want to do better over there then at the European [Championships].

“At least, I want that, and after that I want to do it better again. That’s how I am.

“The World Cup won’t be my last big tournament. I’ve never had a major injury, hardly any muscle problems. I will play for another 10 years.”

Van Persie enjoyed his second injury free season in a row in his debut year at Old Trafford after spending so much of the previous decade on the sidelines at Arsenal.

United reaped the rewards of van Persie managing to stay match fit with his 30 goals playing a major role in regaining the title and looking forward to seasons ahead, the Dutchman admitted he has taken inspiration from seeing Ryan Giggs in action.

“Yes, serious, that’s my goal when I feel myself like I do now,” he continued. “It’s a drive for me when I see Ryan Giggs train every day fantastic and play fantastic.”

Van Persie previously admitted that he feels he could happily finish his career at Old Trafford and United fans would be more than happy for him to do so.

Like Cantona, the signing of van Persie was a catalyst to our success last season and with the most challenging season in years ahead of us, we will need the prolific Dutchman to continue his fine form once again.
