Rafael: I’m fit to play against Manchester City

Rafael has given United a boost and confirmed on his official Instagram account that he is fit to play in tomorrow’s derby against Manchester City.

In response to a fan on a picture he uploaded today, Rafael revealed that he was available for selection by David Moyes.

The 22-year-old has been sidelined ever since walking off in the first half with a hamstring injury during the Community Shield against Wigan Athletic in August.

In his absence Fabio, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling have all filled in the spot with varying degrees of success but none have been able to fully replace Rafael.

rafael-instagram-fitThe Brazilian returned to full training in the past couple of weeks and according to the player himself, he is fit and ready for the derby tomorrow which is a fantastic boost for United.

Given the current form of Antonio Valencia, it could give United a fantastic partnership once again on the right hand side of the pitch.

Back in 2011, when Valencia was named Player of the Year at the end of season awards, his partnership with Rafael on the right was United’s most lethal outlet.

Last year, Valencia’s poor season didn’t allow that fruitful partnership to continue but now that he is back on form, the return of Rafael could be perfectly timed for the derby.

The question would be whether David Moyes would risk playing Rafael as he is yet to play a competitive match so far this season and on Tuesday, Chris Smalling was fantastic in the right back spot.

Regardless of whether Rafael features tomorrow, it is fantastic to hear that he is back to full fitness and if he doesn’t feature against City, he could play Liverpool in the midweek Capital One Cup fixture.
