Nick Powell (Wigan Athletic) – After a disappointing midweek, Powell started against Ipswich in the league. Wigan went in front after 12 minutes when Shotton headed home from a Powell corner.
Powell came close to doubling the lead on a few occasions in the first half. In the 21st minute, he had a shot blocked by Skuse and then just before half-time he smashed an effort just wide. That was really unfortunate since the keeper was beaten.
He came close again in the second half, glancing a header wide, but did eventually score in the 89th minute when he tapped home from close range to secure a 2-0 win for Wigan.
Davide Petrucci (Royal Antwerp) – Petrucci started his fifth game in a row against CS Visé. He had a shot on goal early in the match but the keeper was well placed to save it. Had another chance to put Antwerp in front just before the break with a long range shot but again the keeper was equal to it.
Petrucci was subbed off at half-time with the score at 0-0. Antwerp then went on the rampage and won the game 5-1.
Ryan Tunnicliffe (Ipswich Town) – Tunnicliffe came face to face with his team mate Powell as Ipswich took on Wigan. He almost scored on the day. Early in the second half, Carson made a smart save to deny Tunnicliffe when he dived low to his right to keep out the midfielder’s drive. There was also a lovely one-two between Taylor and Tunnicliffe which almost saw Taylor in on goal but his shot was blocked by Perch.
In the dying moments of the match, Tunnicliffe went on a strong driving run but he failed to trouble Carson with his shot. The game ended in a 2-0 defeat for Town.
